Started reading webmaster stuff on Google this week. Now no longer agnostic. Adam Lasnik and Matt Cutts are my gods!

Yes, please, please, please you guys, do an SEO 101 book, film, video, CD, anything! You can make Google even bigger by helping people learn how it works, and all it works for. Example: I just now learned from Aaron’s blog that Google Maps could have been used to check out which houses were ‘crispy’ in the recent fires. Please share your knowledge with know-nothing newbys like me! You may not realize how much it’s needed.

Suggestion: “THE GOOGLE BOOK.” Write about everything from email header details to SEO to setting up a blog; aim it at the beginners. You will rule in heaven!

Google support for Webmaster is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

It is our job as Developers, Webmasters, and SEO’s to guide the average Webmaster to Google Quality Guidelines.

There is a lot of noise and power struggle out there, so it kind of hard to do.
So the only thing we can hope for is to impart what we can on people who are willing to listen.

Like in Werewolf, we know, but they think they know.

However, everyone and I mean EVERYONE would be far more interested in what you have to offer along the lines of SEO 101. Am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

This we agree upon.

As far as I’m concerned with the SEO classes, the more education, the better.

Hey Matt, we shot some SEO 101 video over at AllBusiness.com last week – there’s a huge need for that especially with the SME market.

However, everyone and I mean EVERYONE would be far more interested in what you have to offer along the lines of SEO 101. Am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

As you might know, my concern is for those who do good basic SEO but get clobbered by the BIG boys algorithmically.

Optimizing .GOV sites will crush many (sorry for the overused sympathy getting expression) “Mom and Pops” so please be aware of this when you make tweaks to your algorithm, we are watching.

Matt – I believe that just one “SEO Basics” page on Google would go a long way. It is hard navigating your blog sometimes with all the noise.

I am also aware of the “opened floodgates”, thank you, it really is a beautiful thing. :)

I have been leaning toward doing some more SEO-101 posts on my blog; a lot of people ask about super-advanced stuff, but covering the basics might well have a larger overall impact.

I understand and respect your concerns and appreciate your enthusiasm for having the world become more SEO-savvy. I’d like to reassure you, though, that it’s our aim at Google to help ALL Webmasters.

Though we’re indeed doing in-person Webmaster training in this situation for a limited group (with a goal to make taxpayer-funded sites more accessible), we’ve opened the floodgates *online * :). To my knowledge, we offer by far the most comprehensive set of Webmaster Tools (via Webmaster Central) *AND* open-to-the-public Webmaster Help groups of any major search engine.

So, while it may sound cliched, this particular presentation to gov’t folks is just part of the beginning. Though I can’t promise that we’ll be doing national roadtours anytime soon, I’m confident that we’ll find more ways to spread best Webmaster practices (focusing on accessibility, user-friendly site navigation tips, etc.) around the world.
