American Idol Links

If you do a search for “American Idol” in Google and Yahoo you will find a site called SirLinksalot.net in the top 5. SLA offers American Idol Links with flashing ad banners that would give anyone a headache. The site is also ugly so what is it that is of use to those searching for American Idol? Why is this site preferred by current algorithms? I got my ideas, let’s hear a few of yours.

My guess is because the site links a lot. There seems to be tons of on topic outbound links.

Please give us a hint why the current algorithms prefer SLA’s “American Idol Links”.

The hint I can give you is, be relevant and generous in your linking. Build a portal for your niche, all the same elements apply but it is more about relevancy.
For instance, I sell a product, others offer a similar product, I notice in my stats that some do not prefer my product so what can I do to become more relevant in Google? I can offer a page to other related products and link out to my competition in a generous way. This act of charity is recognized in current algorithms just as it should be.
Be generous, be relevant, offer you vistors all you can and if you can not cover an area, link to it.
Just as with Google, some things I know must remain guarded, I have spent too many years trying to get legit sites above the spam.
