Crosslinking is reciprocal

Posted on August 2, 2007 - Filed Under Google News |

Crosslinking is ok as long as you are not a major spammer says Google. I could not take it anymore just last week because a product I sell just does not get the links like those above me (link trading, buying links, three way linking, manipulating with “educational” documents and domains, universal search spamming) so I crosslinked to give myself a push. Wouldn’t you know, it caused my site to drop further down in the SERPS?

It is really getting frustrating, I have taken “white hat” SEO to an extreme and am suffering greatly with low traffic because of supplementals from few incoming links. A site that has now replaced my position (*cough GREEN Culture Inc*) spams me by email and even phone weekly for some of my sites saying “I like your site, what can I do to get a link on it”? Stupid me replies, “I do not do any link trading, sorry” and now I have been replaced by this eco friendly imposter.

Hello? Crosslinking has no real value, it does have great value to Google to help them discover your network. What might have value (if you have multiple sites) is making a pretty banner for the product(s) you sell but as for influencing search results? Crosslinking is reciprocal and has the value of ZERO!

When are those who have played by the rules going to “get some” Google? Thank God for this vacation, I am about to scream! ;-(

Aaron, it’s not enough just to follow the rules. To win American Idol, you got to be the best (best singer, entertainer, best legs, whatever). Same thing with Google. It’s a popularity contest. Just abiding by the rules will not make you popular.

I don’t agree that crosslinking your sites has no value. It has plenty of value in various ways *if you do it right*.

Halfdeck - On American Idol “America Voted”, in Google… stats vote then they tweak the results to try to eliminate spam. That is like fixing a lottery with Google the final judge and jury.

No problem though, when I return I will be filling all the empty “popular” slots with universal search media if that is what is required to still sell product.

Yeah its completely not like a lottery because ranking #1 isn’t pot-luck.

Pushing anything to the limits no matter how good it is is considered bad. (by search engines at least).

I just wonder what kind of criteria google uses to decide these things. Cross linking shouldn’t hurt you, but probably won’t help all that much. If your sites are on separate ips it will give you more weight I feel.
