Earned Organic Links

Posted on December 15, 2006 - Filed Under Tips |

You want to do well in Google from earned organic links?

Here are the rules:

  • Google refined its link-weighting algorithms to reward natural organic links.
  • Undermining the PageRank algorithm is likely to result in the loss of the ability of link-selling sites to pass on reputation.
  • If you want to risk your reputation linkbaiting people be sure that you do so in friendly ways that bring in natural links.
  • Stefanie Ulrike Dürr from Google tells us more.

I am really loving this and am surprised that it is not getting more buzz! Notice the phrase “link weighting algorithm”, nice!

Aaron, I’m giving the issue some buzz at SEO Theory. And I have had the audacity to ask Matt Cutts to comment on it on his blog. Maybe we should ask other people to ask for his comments.

Michael - I do not see much more that can be answered by Matt, links are weighted so those who try to pay their way into search will no longer have their way.

This idea may bother those who buy, sell or pay per post but at least Google has made a statement so now we have parameters to work within.

I’m not talking about paid links. I’m talking about their declaring war on use of social link sites for link building. I thought that was what you were referring to, since the WebmasterCentral blog post you link to was speaking of it.

My sites that I care about have been working within these suspected parameters for over a year now with much success. I was mainly celebrating the confirmation of “link weighting” as well as giving props to Google for at least making their rules evident.

But I do agree, there will always be gray areas Michael, though I would not use the phrase “Declaring war” to describe it.
