Aaron - I agree, it must have something more to do with it than age. Our site is around 6 years old, yet hasn't generated any sitelinks. From my findings, sites - in our market - that do have sitelinks are those which have a steady, well maintained site with good structure. Not a heirarchical structure like most sites, more of a heirarchical loop, where all the pages under each category all link to the main categories - all the category pages all tend to have a relatively decent PR (3-4 +). If only someone could gain some real inside knowledge to how it's worked out, then it'd make both Google alot more user-friendly and it'd also help me with traffic.

On the contrary, I have seen sites with sitelinks that appear to have no real wealth on the internet - that truly just baffles me, but I guess someone's ought to know how to get sitelinks.

May the linkforce be with you ;)

That is a good question, I got a site that is several years old but not in sitelinks. There must be other factors than age that Google will not tell you about because they will expose what they use to determine authority.

Sitelinks must remain a mystery, at least part of it.

today only i came to know about the sitelinks after searching the help center and others sources. I also read that for inclusion in sitelinks section the site should be older for few years; Here my question is that how many years old.

Google Sitelinks is very helpful for generating traffic to web site and also it lays out the base for making a web site "authority" web site.

I am not so sure of the "monthly searches" idea, it appears to be more of a quality/brand thing.

It depends on the niche too Aaron. Not every searched word has those links for the #1 website.

It has to have a good number of monthly searches, for starters.

My product site is #2 and has flash in the header, I am going to make it more professional in code and content and see if I can pick up a sitelink.

I knew that a long time ago .. They are just saying what the community already knows.

We show them when we think they’ll be most useful to searchers

Yeah right. If it's #1, it will always have sitelinks.
