Confirmed: Google to open up a $600 million server farm in NC

It looks like $100 million in tax breaks was enough to convince Google to become server Tar Heels. It’s now been confirmed that they are in fact opening up a massive server farm in North Carolina that will eventually employ 210 people.
“The data center were planning to build … will help support continued growth in our online services,” said Lloyd Taylor, director of global operations for Mountain View, California-based Google.
Also if you live in Lenoir, North Carolina and want to raise your income by about $20,000 - start polishing up that resume and learning about servers because the average annual salary at the data center is expected to be $48,300, about $20,000 more than the average salary in Caldwell County.

I’m the sole member of the City Council or County Commissioners who voted against the incentives. I oppose them on philosophical and political grounds. As happy as I am to have Google coming to Lenoir, I’m afraid the incentives may really hurt the other Lenoir taxpayers over the next thirty years. Did you know that the City and County’s incentives don’t even require Google to meet any investment, job number or salary goals?
