I submitted Lighten Up, Ontario! (The http://www.lightenupontario.ca one). Did it go through? I’ll do the other two after.

There is a message now in there for non profits and personal sites, I would suggest submitting them once again because the “if” code was hosed, sorry.

It also doesn’t allow people to submit multiple URL’s if they are from the same domain now.

I pretty much removed the word “reciprocal” from the code, reciprocal is so early 90’s dude!

Could we safely say that reciprocating is a form of masturbation?

Matt Cutts will also be happy because the option for 3 way link spamming is gone.

Still, I like your effort and the fact that you actually listen to people. That will serve you well.

I am currently working on a “suggest a category” field as well.

But it says reciprocal link isn’t required. Yet when I fill it in for a non-prof submission, it says it is.

I’d have to ask if I can submit then, since most of them don’t give away links unless there’s some form of partnership involved beyond just a link exchange. (e.g. lightenupontario.ca and weconserve.ca are projects put on by Conservation Council of Ontario.)

I’m not trying to ride your ass or make life more difficult for you or anything like that. I’m just trying to help you make the directory better (and get my clients’ stuff included. ;) )

SEO’s who market sites in a search engine compliant way will benefit more from one single link in my directory(s) then doing a large destructive link building campaign. I have the proof that a single link from a trusted directory is all a site needs. Then the important factors like good content are required.

But again, everything I do is for fun and games, if this idea succeeds great/if not/then – I will launch another one.

I gotta be honest with you…I like the idea of the directory, but I don’t think the concept of adding paid links to it will fly for a few reasons:

1) There’s not much to this site other than a directory.

2) The directory itself doesn’t have an environmental “theme” or “skin”. Looks like a default phpLD skin to me.

3) $99 for a lot of environmental sites is probably too much money for the direct traffic they’d receive, as many of them are regionally based.

4) Environmental site owners tend not to be especially concerned about SEO and more concerned about their message, so if you’re plugging SEO benefits (which I don’t think you are), it won’t matter.

For example, I’ve designed/developed/redeveloped 3 environmental sites in the past year:

And if I turned to the owners of these sites and said “you can spend $99 to get listed in this directory”, they’d take one look at the site and say “why”? Two of the sites not-for-profit sites and two of the sites do enough marketing through other means and organic link building that they really don’t have to. And that’s three sites that probably deserve to be there but won’t simply because of economic reasons (maybe I’m a tad biased, but I think they’re well-built sites).

Sorry dude…but I think you need to think this through a bit more in terms of who you’re trying to list in the site and the audience you’re trying to reach with it.
