Reward commenters with sitewide link credits
I am going to reward those who visit my blog with sitewide link credits because I:
- what to encourage those from novice to expert to make comments or ask questions.
- enjoy reading all the varying views on any given subject.
- want to observe if a sitewide blogroll has any negative influence on search engine rankings.
Since blogrolls do not bleed pagerank and it doesn’t appear that it is finite I will start building my blogroll to reward those who comment daily/weekly.
I also might even remove the nofollow tag from the recent comments in the sidebar to pass a little PR to those who spend the time answering questions, helping those who are new to SEO or even debating something that they feel is incorrect and in need of a little clarification (SEO is surely not an exact science).
It is also time to say thanks but no thanks to the Google nofollow which still is useful in the regular comments because that area can not always be policed and those who post their do not always have related or clean sites. In other words, I can handle spam and do not need Google to hold my hand anymore.
Is this a crazy idea? Will this only lead to me bleeding out on the side of the road while other SEOs race by?

I like the idea of comment credit. SEOmoz does something similar, and I get so easily caught up in my rank and how many points I have. Even though it doesn’t really mean anything.
SEOmoz though doesn’t really help anyone optimization despite significant contributions from their readers.
Your site might be different by offering true link love.

I noticed over at SEOmoz that only the “top commenters” get the full link credit without a nofollow tag, were you wearing your pink goggles Nathania? ;)

No, I wasn’t wearing my pink goggles! Oops!
I must say I’m guilty of being a skimmer more often than a reader. That’s shameful coming from a copywriter, I know. :)
That’s probably why I’m constantly corrected on my comments all over the blogosphere. Sigh.

I can relate… edited my last post 5 times then gave up saying, it’s a mess and who cares!!! Grrr.
I got to interview or have you contribute an article on copywriting sometime, you game?

I recently added trackbacks to help with that. Has anyone seen any Wordpress blogs with comment sidebars like you see on some Typepad blogs like this… http://www.networkinginsight.com/

David – Yes look to the right, my recent comments is identical to that correct?

I made the blog roll?? Wow! Thanks! But I think I’ve only posted like twice.
Perhaps I am reading you more than I realise? :)

I’m going to comment… but not because I want to be on the blog roll.
I went to this blog because you posted links to a Joe Satriani tune on Graywolf’s blog. When you mention the mighty Satch, you get a comment. :)
