Sitening SEO Report
I am looking for good SEO reporting tools that are either free or almost free for budget SEO. There are all kinds of SEO report pages out there that offer free reports but what is it that you get? Is there a tool that automates the task that is of good enough quality to replace manual retrieval or multiple tool usage?
I contacted Jon Henshaw from Sitening who offers an online SEO report for a fair price of only $9.95 and asked him if I could give his a try, he said yes and asked me for a domain name then sent me a full report in PDF format. The returned SEO Reports quality was very good and would be useful to new website owners. It also didn’t point me in the wrong direction or pressure me to sign a contract for SEO services which was refreshing.
Here is the report for my neglected water garden site. (adobe reader PDF format)
I also asked Jon a few questions about his SEO report and here is what he said:
Hi Jon, I do not spend much time in forums, are you a seasoned SEO who I should have heard about or do you exist outside the box with regular webmasters like myself? Give us a little of your internet history.
I started building websites about 12 years ago. However, about 4-5 years ago I was introduced to web standards. As I transitioned from using my old techniques, and started using more modern techniques, the attributes of accessible and semantically oriented code practically screamed out SEO. So I would have to say, oddly enough, that web standards is what got me interested in SEO.
As for experience, I’ve spent the past several years implementing, strategizing and researching SEO. It hard say how seasoned or good an SEO person is, especially since many SEO consultants implement different strategies. I’ve mainly focused on smart information architecture, clever marketing strategies and improving organic SERPs. In general, I stay somewhat away from fee based marketing, like PPC campaigns, because once the budget runs out, so does the traffic.
It’s funny that you mention forums, because I don’t spend much time in them either. It’s not because I don’t want to, or I don’t think it’s a good idea, but I simply don’t have the time. Some of the bigger name SEO personalities seem to spend a lot of time in forums like V7N, WebmasterWorld.com and others, but I’m not sure how they do it. I’m either in a meeting with a client, doing work, or planning our next strategy for our business. If I have any time afterwards, it’s spent hanging out with my wife and kids.
Let’s talk about this SEO report, I think it gives some good basic advice that if followed could benefit new website owners, do you also offer SEO services in combination with the report like others do?
The “SEO Report” is really a high level view of a website’s search engine performance. It basically takes what would normally be 15-20 minutes of data research, and 30+ minutes of custom reporting, and condenses it into a report that’s produced in about 1 minute. If you were to go to any other SEO consultant to get the same type of report, it would cost at least $100-$300.
We also offer a suite of free SEO tools that compliment the SEO Report. The main place where we make money is with information architecture, strategy, web design and programming. We’ve found that offering these tools and information does two things. First, it enables anyone to get their hands wet with SEO. Second, it provides leads for people who don’t know how to implement the necessary changes and strategies for their website.
Tell us about your other tools like the SEO Analyzer? I like that it includes website structure and semantics, do you see success in todays search engines more about compliance and content than brute force link building?
SEO Analyzer was the first tool we created. I really wanted a tool that would combine web standards and SEO, and tell me if a web page was optimized for search engines. The tool outputs a score and points out areas where the page is doing well or isn’t doing well.
Another tool is the Backlink Analyzer. Similar to the SEO Analyzer, it produces a score that tells you whether or not you should pursue getting a link from a website. Out of all the tools, the SERP Tracker is my favorite. It lets you track any domain and any keywords associated with it, and it delivers a daily report on keyword performance in the SERPs. It’s my SEO equivalent to a stock market tracker.
Regarding your question about compliance versus brute force, most competent SEO consultants will tell you that black hat and spammy techniques are all but a thing of the past. I’ve never delved into the world of grey or black hat SEO, but I’ve followed it very closely — mainly out of curiosity.
I think the future of SEO is good information architecture, good original content, and clever marketing strategies.
What are your future plans for Sitening.com and what is a “Sitening”?
For competitive reasons, I don’t want to reveal all of our future plans. However, I feel comfortable saying that we plan on greatly improving our SEO Tools, and including features that will be very desirable to web development, SEO and marketing firms. We’re also planning on developing and releasing tools in areas other than SEO.
What is Sitening? I guess you’re asking why we named the company Sitening. Although I wasn’t with the company when it was formed, I’ve been told that it’s a mix between Lightning and Website. Other than that, there’s not a lot of meaning. Of course, I would hope that it would eventually be synonymous with SEO.

Cool report. Needs some pictures and colours though. At least logos or something.
Maybe that comes in V-2.

That is exactly what makes it good, a no bullshit good basic seo report but yeah, throwing in a little color and bling can only help.

If Aaron had his way, Fitty Cent would be on every page and his bling would be the footer. ;)

back from having a go at the SEO Analyzer tool,
only thing i found was, it wasnt verifying . extensions.
while testing out a site, i made a typo and instead of saying .com i said it as .cmo and it still gave me a valid report .

I am a low budget (no budget) webmaster. The tools are in my estimation the Best of Breed. Can’t wait to see the new ones.

That’s a very useful report in terms of what the sitening report can offer - I’m impressed enough that I’ll get one done for my site too. Cheers!
