View your anchor text
Posted on March 15, 2007 - Filed Under Google News |
Google now allows you to view the anchor text of incoming links in webmaster tools saying:
How sites link to you has an impact on your traffic from those links, because it describes your site to potential visitors. In addition, anchor text influences the queries your site ranks for in the search results.
So there you have it, anchor text not only describes who you are, it also influences your rankings, but you already knew that right?
Can you overuse anchor text in your link building sessions?
You sure can!
Let me also tell you a secret, when I named this site SEO Buzz Box it might have seemed silly to humans but not to algorithms. I am currently 52nd in Google for “SEO” and climbing, anchor text is a part of what fuels the mothership. Hoorah!

Aaron, what happened to your blogroll?
The drop-down obviously doesn’t count as a backlink.

Harry - I wasn’t aware of that, was trying a plugin to make the blogroll shorter. Next week I will try your tutorial unless you want to cut, paste and email me the code. :)

Blogroll here.
This will create a div with a scrollbar to the right of it. See if that’s what you want…I’d show you an example, but I can’t think of anything I’ve done recently that would have one.

Aaron - I’ll throw some code together for you later to do it. :) Thanks for the quick response.

Dammit, my code stripped out. Put in the brackets in the appropriate places, then.
<div style=”width: 200px; height: 200px; overflow: auto;”>
Your blogroll here.
</div>
There, this should do it. Adjust the width and height as appropriate. Too many blogrollers will create a div with a scrollbar in it.
