Yahoo and MSN adopt Google Sitemaps

Posted on November 17, 2006 - Filed Under Google News |

Just incase you might have missed it, Yahoo and MSN will be adopting the Google Sitemap 0.84 XML protocol. Those who understand the value of success in Google might also now have more success in Yahoo! and MSN in the future. I don’t know about you, but my sites do extremely well in Google because they are pearly white but Yahoo! pretty much ignores while MSN (the literal engine) ranks me for the exact titles of my posts. It has been a real mess and much of it has to do with a poor quality data exchange.

Let Googleblog’s Grace Kwak point you in all the right direction:

Last year we published the Sitemap 0.84 XML protocol as a free and easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about URLs on their web sites so that search engines can more effectively crawl them. We released it under the Attribution/Share Alike Creative Commons license in the hopes that other search engines would adopt theprotocol too. And today, we’re excited to announce that Yahoo! and Microsoft are joining us in officially supporting the Sitemap protocol.

As the web becomes more dynamic, Sitemaps will enable better and fresher search results for everyone who uses the web. For site owners, Sitemaps will help improve website visibility in search results. You can read more about this on our Webmaster Central blog.

Now hopefully Yahoo! and MSN will also work to mirror Google’s search quality and fairness. Did I just say that? Damn right I did!
